This Old House Builds 1,900 Square-Foot Garden Craftsman Cottage At Cloudland Station

We are excited to welcome This Old House to our community. The This Old House franchise reflects the lifestyle and culture we appreciate at Cloudland Station and we are honored to have been selected to build its first decorated show home at Cloudland Station.

About the Home: The 1,900-square-foot Garden Craftsman cottage features a wrap around porch with wide tapered craftsman columns perfectly suited for rocking, dining and even sleeping. The exterior has classic double hung windows, as well as some small square windows often found in historical rural outbuildings to nuance the home with the garden cottage aesthetic. A large front dormer that includes a cedar shake curved shed roof overhangs five windows that enable a panoramic view from an upstairs bedroom. The roof is standing seam and boasts a steep pitch that evokes the mountain scenery in which the home is nestled.

The home features tons of built-ins and takes advantage of all its crooks and crannies to prove you can build small and live large. The house comprises 3 bedrooms and 2 baths and includes an additional 200 square feet of loft space bringing the total square footage to 1900. The textures throughout provide a wonderful variety of the old and new and is a great place to generate ideas. The interior design was provided by Yvonne McFadden, LLC of Atlanta. The home was designed by John Tatum, CEO of Firefly Communities with the input of Susan Nowland of Nowland Design of Chattanooga, Joal Henke and David Martin of D&B Carpentry, the builders, and the team at This Old House.

We are hosting a Grand Opening weekend Oct. 24-25, which will be full of fun for the whole family. Homeowners, guests and visitors will have a chance to tour the This Old House Cottage through December. More details to come next week.

A portion of the ticket sales will be donated to the The Sisken Children’s Institute of Chattanooga.

The This Old House Cottage at Cloudland Station will be featured extensively in the 2015 November/December issue of This Old House and on the magazine’s website page.
