Cloudland Station in Northwest Georgia Hosts 2021 Designer Showcottage

Harrison Design, Region’s Top Interior Designers and Atlanta Developer Collaborate to Reimagine

(Northwest Georgia) -- Spring 2021 -- Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles magazine has selected Cloudland Station, a storied 500-acre community nestled in the Chattanooga Valley in historic Chickamauga, Georgia, to host its 2021 Designer Showcottage. The community of Cloudland Station was chosen for its pristine bucolic setting and commitment to fostering authentic community through connection. Founded in 2005 by developer John Tatum, the low-density community is located two hours from Atlanta and 20 minutes from Chattanooga, TN. The developer and the media partner tapped Coleman Mills of Harrison Design to lead - along with nine talented interior designers from Georgia, Tennessee, and Alabama - the design of Cloudland Station’s 2021 Showcottage: The Mountain Laurel.

“Cloudland Station grew out of my personal passion to create a place where my children could experience the simple joys of a bygone era,” explains John Tatum, developer, Cloudland Station. “It’s here that the beauty of the land teaches us how to connect. A trout stream, apple orchard, and meandering hillside trails invite discovery for the young and young-at-heart.”

Affectionately named “The Mountain Laurel,” the compact cottage evokes the charm of a late 19th-century garden cottage where indoor and outdoor living spaces breezily blend. Gathering happens naturally, whether in the soaring 24-foot-height living room or on locally quarried stone benches in the fragrant garden courtyard. A ledgestone Spring House serves as both the heart of and inspiration for the Showcottage, and as if it grew around the ruin over generations. With just 1,620-square feet of conditioned space, The Mountain Laurel lives large, comfortably sleeping 11 people within a variety of lofts, nap nooks, and traditional bedrooms. Awash in Old World details, The Mountain Laurel features deep overhangs; exposed outlookers; heavy timber columns and brackets; board and batten and lapped siding; both metal and wood shake roofing; and a second-floor balcony that frames views of the mountains beyond.

Nine top interior designers from around the Southeast will design the cottage interiors and furnishings, interpreting the garden cottage through myriad design lenses including traditional, transitional, and contemporary. A complete list of participating designers and their spaces are listed here.

The 2021 Designer Showcottage will be open for the public to tour weekends only Saturday, June 18 through Sunday, July 4, 2021. Tickets are $15 and benefit Make-A-Wish Georgia.
